SAFLII - the South African legal information institute

John Montgomery - Director Legal Information from Wits Law School
March 2004 John introduced the newly launched SAFLII, a collaboration between the Wits Law School and the Australian Legal information Institute, and discussed possible future directions.  The meeting generated some interesting dicussion, and emphasised the need for fast access to judgments in the public domain.

The South African Bureau of Standards and Standardisation: a joint OSALL/SLIS meeting

Speakers The speakers were Mr Tsheko Ratsheko, Policy Development and Implementation Manager at the SABS and Mrs Ann Nel, Information Services Department Manager, SABS.
20 Feb 2002 Standard Specifications and Codes of Practice are somewhat of a mystery to many subject specialist librarians. We may or may not be aware that certain Standard Specifications are, in fact, part of our legislation. We asked our speakers to address us on these topics.

OSALL members were invited to attend an interactive session addressing, inter alia, service levels experienced by members ; views on Juta Law publications (print and electronic) ; research needs of law libraians ; areas of law not adequately covered by existing publications ; product announcements. There was also a Question and Answer session.

OSALL'S 25th Anniversary meeting and AGM

 31 July 2001 This year we celebrate 25 years of OSALL. Our AGM  took the form of a business meeting at 12 pm, followed by a delicious finger lunch.  We were delighted to welcome the Hon. Judge Ralph Zulman of the Supreme Court of Appeal as our guest speaker. Among our guests we had some of the founder members of OSALL.

Law Librarians' Interactive Workshop
Speaker Joan Laithwaite (Johannesburg Bar Library) presented case studies and practice updates. Sheryl Luthuli (Constitutional Court Library) gave a presentation regarding electronic cataloguing resources available to small libraries. Danielle Heij (Brink Cohen Le Roux and Roodt Inc.) gave a presentation about maintaining and organising bookmarks on web browsers.
